Student Council

Student Council serves as a training experience for both leaders and followers. Student Council is the decision-making body of our school. It also acts as the clearing house for student activities such as:

  • Dress up days
  • Selling ice cream and/or candy afterschool

Student Council also approves monies for activities, the expenditure of monies such as "Students of the Month" going for lunch to Pizza Hut, and monies for classroom incentives such as field trips. Student Council members are expected to attend two meetings a month during lunch or recess.

Student council sponsors are Belinda Smith and Fatima Romero. This year we have 22 representatives ranging from 3rd grade to 5th grade students. Our 2010-2011 Student Council Representatives are:

The peer mediation program is a service that is provided to students who need help solving conflicts at recess.

Currently there are 18 Fifth Grade students on the peer mediation team. These students have gone through training to learn how to mediate other students. They talk with the children who are having a conflict and help to find a solution to the problem. This is an excellent way to show others that problems can be solved in a peaceful manner.

Once a month the peer mediators have a luncheon meeting with three Clawson staff members so that they can discuss what is working and what needs to be improved as they do their mediations.

Our goal is to help students learn how to talk out their conflicts at a young age and take these skills with them throughout their life.
