At Huber Middle School, we have peer mediation available for all students and staff. Mediation is a conflict resolution process in which two parties in conflict sit down with a neutral 3rd party and work toward a solution acceptable to both parties.
Peer mediation is the mediation process where students, working in pairs as mediators, help other students peacefully resolve conflicts. Peer mediators are trained by the counselor in a step-by-step process. They are not responsible for solving the problem--only helping the disputants to solve it. They do not judge or make decisions or decide who is right. They remain neutral and the mediation is confidential.
Peer mediators participate in peer mediator training, make up school work missed during training or mediations, attend meetings, and commit to the program for at least one year. This program is under the direction of the counselor.
