Dear DUSD Families: As we prepare for the upcoming Bisbee–Douglas football game, I want to address the vandalism that occurred at the Armando De Lucas Stadium.
Two communities are coming together for a great high school football tradition, and while we may proudly support different teams, we share much more in common than what separates us. Both Douglas and Bisbee are communities that believe in our students, our schools, and the importance of good sportsmanship.
Vandalism and acts of disrespect have no place in high school athletics or in our communities. Competition should bring out the best in us, not lead to behavior that damages property, disrespects others, or diminishes the experience for our students and families.
I encourage all students, families, athletes, coaches, and fans to demonstrate good values and ethical behavior throughout the game and surrounding events. Let us show that we can compete with intensity and pride while treating one another with dignity and respect.
The true measure of a community is not simply whether we win or lose, but how we conduct ourselves while competing. Let this game be an example of spirited, respectful competition and an opportunity for both communities to show our young people what sportsmanship, character, and integrity look like.
We are two communities, but we can stand together in our commitment to doing what is right. I ask everyone attending Friday’s game to help make it a celebration of our students and of good, honest competition.
Let’s compete hard, support our teams, respect one another, and show that sportsmanship and character always come first.
