Dear Students, Parents, Guardians, and Stakeholders of PHMS,

On behalf of the amazing staff at Paul Huber Middle School, we are happy to welcome you to the 2023/2024 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. The staff at PHMS recognize that to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with all our stakeholders will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our duties.

Each school year comes with some exciting changes, and as we move into the 2023/24 school year, the priorities of these changes will always focus on students and what is in their best interest. As professional educators, we both believe in supporting a vision for the school that serves all students, in creating a culture that values education, in sharing leadership with stakeholders, and in concentrating our time on improving instructional practices in the classroom.

Parents and guardians, we ask that you guide and support our students’ learning by ensuring that they:

1. Attend school daily and arrive on time, ready for the day’s learning. We cannot emphasize strongly enough how important your child’s attendance at school is in relation to their success.

2. Complete all homework assignments given by teachers promptly.

3. Read daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.

4. Share school experiences with you so that you are aware of their school life. (Please ask your children how school is going and don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your child’s progress.)

5. Inform you if they need additional support in any area or subject. (Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you believe your child needs additional support.)

6. Know that you expect them to succeed in school and go on to college, a productive career, or both. Expectations mean everything to our students, so hold high ones for them!

Students, we ask that you:

1. Attend school daily and arrive on time, ready for the day’s learning.

2. Complete all homework assignments given by teachers promptly.

3. Share your school experiences with your parents or guardians.

4. Inform your teachers, principal, assistant principal, counselor, parents, or guardians if you need additional support in any area or subject.

5. Hold high expectations for yourself. Know that we expect you to succeed in school and go on to college, a productive career, or both. There isn’t anything you cannot do if you set your mind to it!

Please take a moment to read this handbook and share it with your student. We hope it is helpful to you. Please keep this handbook in a handy place and refer to it throughout the year as a reference for our school procedures, expectations, and district and school policies.

Respectfully,

Julian Martin, Principal
