Message from our Superintendent

September 11, 2023

Dear DUSD Parents/Guardians:

Thank you to all our families for engaging in our Parent-Teacher conferences last week and to our educators for planning and leading these very important meetings. We had a fabulous turnout and are confident that together we can do what’s best for your child. If for any reason you did not have the ability to attend your child’s parent conference please reach out to the teacher to schedule. Let’s also all stay focused on great student attendance and engagement knowing it leads to ensuring that your child, our student has a successful school year.

As we continue on this educational journey, I am excited to invite you all to the Kids at Hope Town Hall on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 5:00pm to be held at the DHS Auditorium. You are an important piece of this philosophy where “Every Child is Capable of Success- No Exceptions!” Your attendance and participation are extremely important to the success of your child.

I am also beyond honored and excited to share with you that our Douglas High School teacher, Mrs. Andrea Barallardos is now one of five finalists for Arizona Teacher of the Year by Arizona Educational Foundation. Receiving this top recognition is such an honor for Andrea and her DUSD community.

Her road to this recognition started with being named Douglas High School teacher of the Year, followed by Cochise County Teacher of the Year and now among the top five Arizona teachers. The Arizona Teacher of the Year will be announced at their event on October 14. For all the details, visit the Arizona Education Foundation website.

We are honored to have Mrs. Andrea Barallardos in our district as she exemplifies what great educators we have at DUSD! Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Barallardos!

Again, hope to see you at our Kids at Hope Town Hall!

Sincerely,

Ana Samaniego, Superintendent
